Why I Signed Up On Tiktok, the Petri Dish of Hubaderas and Lewd Dancing
Tiktok is the perfect breeding ground for hubaderas and lewd dancing.
I would have never signed up for an account if it weren't for Gary Vaynerchuk's advice to a crowd during the 2019 RD Summit.
He told them that you should start marketing on Tiktok. Tiktok and LinkedIn are two social media platforms that he can foreseeably see gaining traction and reaching Facebook success in the coming years.
Gary Who?
At a glance, you wouldn't guess that Gary is a business mogul. He has made money off of selling wine and mastering the how-tos of content-making on different social media platforms. He cusses. He dresses himself in tees, baggy pants, or a dull-looking sweatshirt. And he sure doesn't have the masculine appeal ripped dads would have in their age.
You would probably pass him by on the street, except that his messages cut through the bulls***.
Like most successful entrepreneurs, he prides himself in enjoying the process, so much so that he is unaffected by the results. The wins are just bonuses. He has no need to put a timeframe to his success, knowing that he is acting upon the opportunities presented to him. And you would never feel that he was money-hungry like closers or salesmen.
There was in fact, an auction he had attended, where he had sold content worth more than everything he had earned in the last 19 years. And his reaction? Nonchalance.
He shares what he has learned throughout the years without asking people for a dime. And instead of delaying business growth, he is facilitating the rise in transactions, causing a snowball effect in sales and the turnover of business to the virtual landscape.
Because of Gary Vaynerchuk, I signed up for Tiktok and had been posting content ever since.
To date, there was only one day where I had missed posting one piece of content. There are days my clips get hundreds of watches, and most days, they only get 30-40 watches. I'm not even sure if people flick through my clips, or they finish the entirety.
But had I not listened to Gary Vaynerchuk, I wouldn't have overcome the fear of judgment.
Make no mistake, I am not deathly afraid of people. I just hate attention. There was a time I would have shrugged it off and acted hostilely towards people who mind my biz, but there are times I act unbecoming of what's expected of me. And it's near-fatal to be surrounded by people who dislike you because...who will want to do business with you?
Now, look at me, I'm a media whore. Kidding 😄
People like Gary Vaynerchuk remind me that it's okay to lose a massive following, so long as you stay true to your character. You aren't alone so long as you make your mind a good bunk to stay in. And you will attract the right people of like-mind and spirit. You will prosper.
On days when I forget Gary Vee's advice, I remind myself which I would hate worse - fear or regret.
Fear is palpable. It restrains. It constricts. You could be in a field, with no horizon in sight, but you could feel yourself in the pitiful chokehold of this invisible force.
But regret...just the thought of it vanquishes the feeling of fear or self-doubt.
Regret only operates when you understand the limitations of life - that it is finite and that everything and everyone will come to pass. And you will come to a point, where you will wonder what you had wasted your time on, and why you hadn't started to venture earlier, or worse, started, at all.
I don't want to have to feel regret when the opportunity to market my business was right in front of me. I don't want to regret not having started early and seeing others surpass me when I know I had been in a better position to outdo them, had I just, started.
And ultimately, that fear of gaining attention is shadowed by the fear of being ridden by regret.
Take that first step.
